God is in the Rain

Description

Inspired by the Suicide Commando song of the same name.

I keep telling myself to get better you need to fail and learn from mistakes, but it still stings. The original idea was a bit of fan art for my own, as yet unwritten story, 'Who Durst Defy', where one of the protagonists, Lumene is sitting in the rain as droplets and pieces of Dea is falling on her, touching both on a scene from 'V For Vendetta', which the song is inspired by and 'Who Durst Defy' shares a few similarities with. Now it's just a mess though.

What have I succeeded with?
- I made it dark and crepy
- I managed the basic construction I imagined.

What have I failed with?
- Basic anatomy. I was afraid I'd lose interest if I started practicing anatomy before I began the real picture.
- Discernability. I wanted you to be able to look on it and immediately understand what was going on, but you need to stare at it for a while.

What have I learned?
- Graphite shines through coal.
- You should not make a sketch out of coal when the image will also be done largely with coal.
- I learned how to make miniscule rain droplets using charcoal.
- To be brave but careful. I just winged making the rain drops and it went well, so I just kept going and losing inhibition, and before I knew it I'd turned it into a mess.
- Not to change my mind about how I want to draw it, in the middle of the process. See the tits in the clouds? I added those because an anatomy study I'd done shone through the paper and I thought it'd be cool to see some sort of discernable piece of Dea in the clouds. At the time I thought it was cool, now I realize how stupid and cheesy it is.

all i can say is www.youtube.com/watch?v=LODkVk…

though your anatomy has improved i would do more photo studies as a suggestion and perhaps put them in your drawings like this
